- See what your evidence can support, and when it cannot.
- Four sources for one role.
- One is older than 18 months. One has a sample below 5. Left out.
- Weighted by sample and match: USD 11,300. Range USD 8,900 to USD 13,900.
- Ask for 20 from every source: one source left. Range suppressed.
- A number only when the evidence can carry it.

ExampleInvented figures for an illustrative role. They are not salary data.
Example role: finance officer, Example city. Evidence older than 18 months is ignored; at least 5 in each source.

Range suppressed
Indicative range USD 8,900 to USD 13,900 · 2 of 4 sources · 60 observations(11,500 × 42 + 10,500 × 12.6) ÷ 54.6 = 11,269, shown as USD 11,300
Step 1 of 4
Four sources. Two are strong enough to use.
Left out: peer organisation (older than 18 months); recruiter estimate (sample below 5). Each stays on the scale as a hairline.

Now your own evidence, on one scale.
One row per source. The example values are invented to show how it works. Two rules decide which sources count: set them first.
Weighted summaries of your sources, not a representative market survey. Coverage depends entirely on the sources you add.
The range is suppressed unless at least two usable sources and 20 observations remain. Figures are rounded to the nearest 100 in every currency. These are this worksheet’s own rules, not a statistical standard. In a figure’s field the arrow keys move it by 100; on a touch screen, use its plus and minus buttons.

How a source counts, and what this cannot tell you.
- 01
Sources are excluded when undated, older than your threshold, below the minimum sample or missing a median.
- 02
Each usable source is weighted by its sample size × role match (exact 1, close 0.7, broad 0.4).
Survey A: sample 42 × 1 (exact match) = weight 42
Job advert sample: sample 18 × 0.7 (close match) = weight 12.6
From the worked example: invented figures. - 03
The range is suppressed unless at least two usable sources and 20 observations remain.
What it cannot tell you
- It summarises the evidence you enter; it is not a market survey.
- Mixed currencies, allowances and benefits must be normalised before entry.
- Pay decisions need job evaluation and policy, not a single number.
Read the result as this
The weighted figure is a weighted average of your sources’ medians. The indicative range is a weighted average of their lows and highs. Neither is a percentile, and neither describes a market.
Quality ruleSuppress unsupported ranges; no representative claim without method.
When the decision needs more than the evidence you hold.
Pay decisions need job evaluation and policy, not a single number.
