Repurpose an institutional report without losing its evidence trail

Repurposing a report into posts, briefs and graphics multiplies its reach and its risk of error. Keep a source trail and every asset stays true to the original.

Practice 07: Communications, content & visibility

The short answer

Only use findings that are cleared for public use, and give each a page or section reference. Every asset built from a finding carries that reference, so anyone can check it against the report. Nothing is published without the approver named in advance.

Where errors creep in

A figure is rounded in one post, then rounded again in another. A caveat drops out of a headline. A draft finding that was never approved makes it into a graphic. Each step is small; together they change what the report said.

The source trail

Clear each finding for public use, record its page or section, and carry that reference into every asset. When someone asks where a number came from, the answer is one click away.

Plan by audience

Policy makers, donors and practitioners need different things from the same finding. Match each finding to each audience and channel, then space the assets at a rhythm your team can sustain.

A worked example

The content repurposing plan takes an education report’s findings. One finding has no page reference and is held back until it can be traced; a draft cost estimate is not cleared for public use and is excluded. The rest become a calendar with the source on every line.

What this guide does not cover

The trail keeps content faithful to the report. It cannot make an inaccurate report accurate.
